Panic Attacks

Do Panic Attacks Seem to Strike Out of Nowhere?

One moment you're fine. The next, your heart is racing, your chest feels tight, you can’t breathe properly - and it feels like you're losing control. Panic attacks can be terrifying, especially when they seem to come out of nowhere.

If you’ve experienced one, you know it’s more than just “anxiety.” It can feel like a wave crashing over you -sudden, overwhelming, and deeply unsettling. And the fear of having another one can become just as debilitating as the attacks themselves.

You’re Not Alone

Over 1 in 10 people in the UK will experience panic attacks at some point in their lives, and for many, they become a recurring cycle -one that leaves you constantly on edge, avoiding situations, or living in fear of the next “episode.”

But panic attacks are not random. They’re a sign that your nervous system is on high alert and has learned to react too quickly, too strongly. The good news is that response can be rewired.

What Panic Attacks Feel Like

While everyone experiences them differently, common symptoms include:

  • Sudden, intense fear or dread
  • Heart palpitations or chest pain
  • Shaking or dizziness
  • Sweating or chills
  • Difficulty breathing or a choking sensation
  • Nausea
  • Feeling detached from your body or surroundings
  • Fear of fainting, losing control, or dying

These physical symptoms are real and frightening -but they’re also easily treatable. Once we understand the pattern your mind and body have learned, we can start changing it.

My Approach to Treating Panic Attacks

As a Clinical Psychotherapist and Hypnotherapist, I use a compassionate, integrated approach that helps you feel safe, empowered, and back in control - quick.

My work takes the best elements of:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – to identify the triggers, thought patterns, and behaviours feeding the panic cycle, and teach you how to interrupt them.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) – focuses on what’s working, not what’s wrong. It helps you build confidence in your ability to cope and prevents panic from ruling your life.
  • Clinical Hypnotherapy – works directly with the subconscious (where your fear response lives) to release the fear response, calm the nervous system, and build an inner sense of safety and control.
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) – to help you break free from automatic panic patterns and replace them with new, calming responses.
  • Neuroscience – to help you understand how your brain is wired for protection - and how you can retrain it for calm, clarity, and resilience.

Together, we’ll not only reduce the frequency and intensity of panic attacks - we’ll dismantle the fear of fear itself.

Why Hypnotherapy for Panic Attacks?

Panic attacks are deeply rooted in the subconscious - they’re your brain’s emergency response system going off too often, or too intensely.

Hypnotherapy allows us to go beyond talk therapy and work directly with that inner alarm system. In a calm, focused state, we can rewire how your mind and body respond to perceived danger.

You’ll learn to stay grounded, feel safe in your own body, and regain control in the moments that used to overwhelm you.

In clinical studies, hypnosis has been shown to significantly reduce anxiety, panic, and related symptoms—often more quickly and effectively than traditional therapy alone.

You Don’t Have to Live in Fear Anymore

Whether you’ve had a handful of panic attacks or feel like they’re ruling your life, change is possible. You don’t need to avoid, hide, or wait for the next one to strike. You can build a life where calm is your default, not chaos.

You deserve to feel safe again. And you can.
